The twenty nawales

No'j

nawal 17 of 20 · in Yucatec Maya Kaban

Its name speaks of wisdom, judgement, reason and thought. It is the day to come to an understanding with the Creator, to bring ideas together, give counsel and cultivate knowledge, and to ask for good ideas for the community's undertakings. People born on No'j are said to be good and prudent, at times quick-tempered; tradition sees them as merchants or doctors.

After the text of the Komon Tohil group of K'iche' daykeepers (ajq'ijab') of Zunil, Quetzaltenango, published by the National Museum of the American Indian (Smithsonian) in “Living Maya Time”.

A living calendar

The Cholq'ij is a living spirituality, not a memory of a vanished people. The meaning of a day is given by an ajq'ij, with the person in front of them, looking at the nawal, the number and the rest of the count; this page can only give the general frame and predicts nothing. If you want to know more about your nawal, go to an ajq'ij of a Maya community.

Dates are calculated with the GMT correlation (584283), the one that agrees with the count the ajq'ijab' of the Guatemalan highlands have kept without a break.
