Sade Sati: Saturn's seven and a half years, for every Moon sign
Sade Sati ('seven and a half') is the period in which transiting Saturn moves through the 12th, 1st and 2nd sign counted from the natal Moon sign (janma rashi), whole signs, sidereal. Saturn spends about 2.5 years per sign, so the period lasts about 7.5 years; retrograde loops can make it start, pause and resume. The three phases are often called rising (12th), peak (1st, over the Moon sign) and setting (2nd).
Shani Dhaiya / Dhaiyya ('two and a half'), also called Small Panoti: Saturn transiting the 4th sign (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th sign (Ashtama Shani) from the natal Moon sign, about 2.5 years each.
Saturn is now in Meena (Pisces), sidereal. The table shows where each Moon sign stands now and its Sade Sati periods from 2020 to 2035. Retrograde loops can interrupt a period and let it resume.

A time of maturity, not a curse
Traditional texts and many astrologers stress that Sade Sati can bring maturity, discipline and achievement, and that its effect depends on the whole birth chart. It is not a misfortune to be feared, and no remedy has to be bought for it.

A minority method counts from the Moon's exact degree (Saturn within 45° before to 45° after the natal Moon) instead of whole signs; drikpanchang and most panchangs use whole signs.
