Rashi calculator: your Moon sign and nakshatra in Vedic astrology
In Vedic astrology (Jyotish) the sign that matters most is usually your rashi, the sign the Moon stood in when you were born, counted in the sidereal zodiac. Enter the date, time and place of your birth: you get your rashi, your birth nakshatra and its pada, your sidereal Sun sign and lagna (ascendant), and whether Saturn's Sade Sati concerns your Moon sign now.
Why your rashi often differs from your Western sign
Western astrology counts the signs from the equinox (the tropical zodiac); Vedic astrology counts them from the stars (the sidereal zodiac). The two have drifted apart by about 24 degrees, so the Sun and the Moon often stand one sign earlier in Jyotish. And where the West looks first to the Sun, Jyotish looks first to the Moon. It is a different system, not a correction of the other one.
The twelve rashis

- Makara (Capricorn), ruled by Saturn: The makara, a mythical sea creature (often drawn as a crocodile or a goat-fish). Makara is described as patient, disciplined and ambitious in a slow, practical way. Ruled by Saturn, it values duty, work and lasting structures.
- Kumbha (Aquarius), ruled by Saturn: The water pot. Kumbha is traditionally linked with service to the wider community, ideals and reflection. Ruled by Saturn, it is thoughtful, independent and often drawn to humanitarian or philosophical aims.
