Moon calendar for cutting hair
Cutting hair by the moon is the most familiar rule of the old moon calendars. It tells two aims apart: strong growth and a cut that lasts a long time.

With a waxing moon in Leo or Virgo, hair is said to grow back strong and full after the cut.

With a waning moon in Leo or Virgo, hair grows back more slowly, and the cut lasts longer.

When the Moon is in Pisces or Cancer, tradition advises against cutting: the hair is then said to be hard to manage.
