Solar return chart calculator
Every year, around your birthday, the Sun comes back to exactly where it stood when you were born. The chart for that moment is the solar return. Tradition reads in it the year of life ahead: which sign is rising, which house the Sun falls in, and where the Moon is.
How the solar return is calculated
The technique is old: Abu Ma'shar described it in ninth-century Baghdad as the “revolutions of the years of nativities”, and through the Latin translations it came into European astrology.
The chart is cast for the place where you spend your birthday. The place changes the ascendant and the houses; the planets stay in the same signs.
The moment does not always fall on the birthday itself: the calendar year is not exactly as long as the Sun's course, so it can come a day before or after.
It is calculated in your browser, to the second, with our own ephemeris; the positions agree with astro.com to a few arcseconds. Nothing is sent.
