New moon in April 2027
Tuesday 6 April 2027, 23:51 UTC
The Sun and the Moon stand together in the zodiac sign of Aries. The Moon is invisible: it is in the daytime sky with the Sun and turns its dark side to us.
What tradition sees in the new moon
Something is beginning today, and you can feel it. A good day to start something that needs time.
The sign of Aries
Aries opens the zodiac: the astrological year begins with it, at the March equinox. Traditionally, Aries is the pioneer in the truest sense: quick, direct and with little patience for long preambles. Mars, its ruler, stands for drive and courage, but also for a love of a fight. What an Aries starts gathers momentum; whether it gets finished is another matter. Its task, it is said, is to know its own will without riding roughshod over others.
When to look for the first crescent
The thin crescent of the waxing Moon appears one or two evenings after the new moon, low in the west shortly after sunset. Exactly when depends on where you are: the visibility of the new crescent.
