New moon in June 2028
Thursday 22 June 2028, 18:27 UTC
The Sun and the Moon stand together in the zodiac sign of Cancer. The Moon is invisible: it is in the daytime sky with the Sun and turns its dark side to us.
What tradition sees in the new moon
Something is beginning today, and you can feel it. A good day to start something that needs time.
The sign of Cancer
Cancer is the sign of origins and home. Its ruler is the Moon itself, and so astrologers read Cancer as sensitive, caring and with a long memory for everything that once hurt. Outwardly it wears a shell; inside it is soft. It protects those it loves, sometimes more than they want. Its task is to give security without shutting itself away in it.
When to look for the first crescent
The thin crescent of the waxing Moon appears one or two evenings after the new moon, low in the west shortly after sunset. Exactly when depends on where you are: the visibility of the new crescent.
