New moon in December 2028
Saturday 16 December 2028, 02:06 UTC
The Sun and the Moon stand together in the zodiac sign of Sagittarius. The Moon is invisible: it is in the daytime sky with the Sun and turns its dark side to us.
What tradition sees in the new moon
Something is beginning today, and you can feel it. A good day to start something that needs time.
The sign of Sagittarius
Sagittarius aims at the horizon. In the old reading it is optimistic, freedom-loving and curious about other countries, ideas and the bigger picture. Jupiter, its ruler, stands for growth and meaning. A Sagittarius says openly what it thinks, sometimes more openly than necessary, and cannot bear being hemmed in. Its task is to turn the wide view into a direction it actually takes.
When to look for the first crescent
The thin crescent of the waxing Moon appears one or two evenings after the new moon, low in the west shortly after sunset. Exactly when depends on where you are: the visibility of the new crescent.
