New moon in November 2028
Thursday 16 November 2028, 13:17 UTC
The Sun and the Moon stand together in the zodiac sign of Scorpio. The Moon is invisible: it is in the daytime sky with the Sun and turns its dark side to us.
What tradition sees in the new moon
Today the first step counts, not the plan for it.
The sign of Scorpio
Scorpio falls in the northern autumn, when nature there draws back, and the tradition gives it depth, passion and endurance. It wants to know what lies beneath the surface and won't be fobbed off with half measures. Its feelings are strong and seldom loud. It is thought of as loyal and unyielding, in trust as in mistrust. Its task, it is said, is transformation: letting go so that something new can begin.
When to look for the first crescent
The thin crescent of the waxing Moon appears one or two evenings after the new moon, low in the west shortly after sunset. Exactly when depends on where you are: the visibility of the new crescent.
