Good days for a haircut
By the old rule, hair grows back fuller when it is cut under a waxing moon in Leo or Virgo, and not in Pisces or Cancer.

Planting by the Moon
The old almanac rule says to sow annual flowers and the crops that bear above ground, such as beans, corn and tomatoes, while the moon is waxing, from new moon to full. While the moon is waning, from full moon back to new, the same rule turns to what grows below ground: carrots, onions, potatoes, flowering bulbs and perennials.
- Fruitful (3, 4, 12, 13, 22, 23, 30, 31): Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are the fruitful signs of the old almanacs, the water signs in which people liked to sow, plant and graft.
- Semi-fruitful (9, 10, 11, 17, 18, 26, 27): Taurus, Capricorn and Libra count as semi-fruitful, a second choice for sowing when the fruitful days do not fit; the Almanac names Taurus for planting and Capricorn for mending fences and garden beds.
- Barren (1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 28, 29): Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius and Aquarius are the barren signs, which tradition kept for weeding, ploughing, harvesting and any work where nothing new is meant to take root.
