Tarot · The Major Arcana

The Tower

The Tower: A tall tower on a rocky peak is struck by lightning; the crown on its top is blown away, flames burst from the windows and two people fall.

The picture

A tall tower on a rocky peak is struck by lightning; the crown on its top is blown away, flames burst from the windows and two people fall.

The meaning

Lightning strikes a tower built on ground too narrow. The tradition reads the card as sudden insight and an upheaval that clears away false certainties. It does not stand for disaster but for something brittle that no longer holds. Afterwards the view is open, and you build better.

Reversed

Reversed, it is read as an upheaval that happens more quietly inside, or a fear of a change that is needed.

In love

In love it is read as an honest conversation that clears the air, even if it is uncomfortable.

At work

At work it stands for an unexpected turn that calls old structures into question.

As your card of the day

An insight may arrive suddenly today. Whatever shakes was perhaps never quite solid.

The Tower stands for clarity after upheaval. If a plan does not hold today, look closely at what could replace it.

The Major Arcana are the 22 trump cards, from the Fool at zero to the World at twenty-one. The tradition reads them as stations on a life's journey: large themes that touch everyone at some point.
