Zodiac sign on 21 December

On 21 December the Sun changes sign in some years, from Sagittarius to Capricorn. If you were born on this day, you are Sagittarius or Capricorn, depending on the year and the hour.

The Sun does not enter a new sign at the same hour every year: the calendar year is not exactly as long as the solar year, and the leap day only evens out the difference every four years. In the years below the Sun changed sign on exactly this day, at the time given in UTC (London winter time): if you were born before it, you are Sagittarius; after it, Capricorn. In the other years it was Sagittarius all day.

♐︎ Sagittarius

Sagittarius aims into the distance. Tradition describes it as optimistic, freedom-loving and curious about countries, ideas and the bigger picture. Jupiter, its planet, stands for growth and meaning. A Sagittarius says openly what it thinks, sometimes more openly than necessary, and cannot bear being hemmed in. Its task is to turn the wide view into a direction it actually takes.

♑︎ Capricorn

Capricorn begins at the December solstice, in the darkest time of the northern year. Tradition gives it endurance, a sense of duty and staying power: it climbs slowly, but it reaches the top. Saturn, its planet, stands for structure, limits and responsibility. A Capricorn often seems more serious than it is and prefers to show feelings through deeds. Its task is to give support without becoming hard.
